Has your winter sport ended, but you're looking for a fun way to stay fit over the summer? Starting athletics is the perfect solution to maintain a healthy lifestyle and build your strength and fitness the warmer months.

Not only will engaging in activities like running and jumping keep you active, but they will also help you improve essential skills, ensuring you're in top form for the next winter sports season.

Just like Patty Mills, Joel Selwood and Sam Kerr you can use the Little Athletics program to develop your skill set to make sure you are running, jumping and throwing the best you can. With a focus on personal bests and physical literacy, the Little Athletics program is an Australian modified athletics program which delivers weekly athletics activities for children from 5 to 16 years.

This variety allows you to work on different muscles and sculpt the entire body through different movements. Not only will athletics enable you to build strength throughout the body, but it is also a fun way to meet new people and stay active over the summer.

HOW CAN I GET STARTED IN LITTLE ATHLETICS?

Run by an incredible network of Little Athletics Centres around the state, the Little Athletics WA program is open to all 5- to 17-year-olds. Most Centres host weekly Little Athletics competitions, mostly on Saturday mornings, from September through to March.

HOW CAN I GET STARTED IN THE STRIVE PROGRAM?

For kids aged 11 years and older you can also register as a senior athlete at your local Senior Club to take part in the weekly Strive program powered by Go For 2&5. Strive is a weekly competition held at the WA Athletics Stadium from September through to March with a rotating roster of events on offer.
